BI supervision of banks comes under fire

Bank Indonesia is under pressure to prove its credibility in supervising national banking institutions after public awareness of Bank Century’s recent clearance default. Drajad H. Wibowo, a member of House of Representatives in Commission XI, said the central bank’s credibility became a challenge amid global financial crisis. Furthermore, Rizal Djalil, other member of the commission, said BI should record each bank’s ownership structure and money distribution, to gain a clearer picture of the banking sector condition.
